Iriga reporter arrested without warrant over alleged violation of Data Privacy Act

Description

Jose Rizal Pajares, reporter of Radyo Natin in Iriga was arrested Aug. 2 by the police for allegedly violating Data Privacy Act.

According to initial information, Pajares accessed the police blotter to read the recent incidents recorded by the police.

The police then arrested Pajares without showing any warrant of arrest. He was detained for three days and was released on Aug. 4 after posting bail amounting to P10,000.

Under the Data Privacy Act, the law is not applicable to personal information processed for the purpose of journalism.
